Couple served raw burger during 'nightmare' stay at Llandudno hotel

A couple said they were horrified to be served a raw beef burger during what they described as a  "nightmare" stay in a Llandudno hotel.

Paula and Colin Williams had been treated to a £400 three-night stay at the Llandudno Bay hotel by their son.

But Paula, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, said the burger incident has now put her off eating meat altogether. She claimed she also found a piece of string in her breakfast, NorthWales Live reports.

The hotel said it was an "unfortunate incident" and that a health and safety investigation had been launched. It said the couple have also been offered a reduced rate for their stay.

Paula, 56, from Wrexham, ordered a beef burger for dinner. She said due to her condition, she struggles with food and decided to cut the burger into pieces.

But she said she was horrified to discover her burger was raw and bleeding onto her plate.

She said: "It made me feel so ill. It has put me off meat. I still haven’t eaten any since we got home."

"I’m not well and my husband hasn't been either so our son thought it would be a nice treat," Paula said.

"But the stay was a nightmare. I just wanted to cry and go home.

"We just didn't want to be there so we went out as much as we could - even in the rain."

A spokesperson for the Llandudno Bay Hotel said: “We are fully aware of the burger incident and we have launched an investigation with our health and safety company - CFC Compliences.

"It is unfortunate but it has been deemed as an isolated incident.

"We have also spoken with our staff and further training will be issued to ensure standards are met in future."

The hotel said the couple have received a reduce rate, from half board to a bed and breakfast rate as a result of the incident.
