Couple sees strange and silent blue light in night sky over Bristol

A man and his wife have described how they saw a baffling and eerie blue light in the sky over Bristol that was so weird they stopped their car to watch it.

The man and his wife, who have asked not to be named, were driving from Fishponds out to the A4174 Avon Ring Road in Frenchay when they saw something strange in the sky.

The incident happened in the early hours of this morning, Friday, May 31, at around 2.20am, and the man said he wanted to tell his story to see if anyone else in north east Bristol saw it, and could tell him what it was.

The light was coming from an unidentified flying object which was flying fairly low in the sky.

“You might say that it is an aeroplane, and maybe it is true, but it was strange because I wasn’t able to hear any engine noise,” he said.

“I was with my wife going from Fishponds to the ring road and my wife saw it first.

“It was cloudy, and I said ‘that is an aeroplane’. After that I stopped the car, turned off the lights and the engine and I’ve opened the window, and it was really strange.

“It was quiet at that hour, there were no cars and no one on the road. As you can see in the picture, it wasn’t flying too high, but it wasn’t making any noise,” he added.

The couple watched the light for around two minutes, with the man recording a video on his phone and his wife taking pictures. But it was only until they looked at images they captured on the video that they noticed there were three red lights within the blue.

“I thought first that maybe they were from my car, but I excluded because the engine and all the lights were off,” he said.

“I am curious if someone else saw it - I don't know what it was,” he added.
