At weddings it's normal for the couple who are getting married to pick some sort of dress code – wether that be formal, black tie or smart casual.
Some couples opt for something a bit more creative, like asking guests to wear a specific colour to fit a theme.
One bride and groom went a step further with their theme, and are allowing guests to wear costumes – but she thinks the fiancé's uncle and a few other guests have gone a step too far.
Taking to Reddit's Am I The A**hole forum, the anonymous woman explained that she is getting married next month and that they will be having a themed wedding.
She explained: "I will be the moon goddess and he will be the god of the seas. The wedding party will be dressed to match the respective side themes.
"Now because of this theme, and the fact that most of our friends are cosplayers, we opened it up for guests to dress up in costume/cosplay to match the overall theme.
"I will admit I was a bit ambiguous in the attire rules but I assumed, I know my first mistake, that everyone would dress to match the occasion or at least appropriately."
The fiancé's uncle, girlfriend, and one of their sons decided it would be funny to wear blow-up T-Rex costumes to their wedding because his side of the family knows the couple loves dinosaurs.
The bride-to-be added: "They are claiming we said they could wear anything so that's what they choose. I think it's tacky, disrespectful, and making fun of our important day."
Her fiancé is also "upset that his uncle is pulling this stunt" and will be "taking all attention away from us". However, his mum thought the costumes were a "great idea" and that it would be "funny".
Now the woman wants to ban them from wearing the costumes at the wedding because she doesn't want them in the wedding photos.
The post divided opinions on the forum, with many people saying that if you say people can wear costumes to a wedding, you can't dictate what people choose to wear.
One person said: "If you invited people to come in costumes, why are you mad that they are planning to come in costumes? How are they supposed to discern which costumes are tacky and which ones are cool, when this is entirely subjective?"
Another added: "If you had a specific aesthetic in mind then you should have clearly defined and stated it to all wedding guests."
However, others said that as the bride and groom, they are completely entitled to decide what people can and can't wear.
One person commented: "It's your wedding. Tell them not to wear dinosaur costumes. If they can't agree to this, THEN ban them, but do please ask them reasonably first."
Another added: "It's your wedding and there's a specific theme. You may have been ambiguous about what they need to wear but people should respect the intended theme."
