Couple's tragedy of losing both children on Channel 4's 24 Hours in A&E

Channel 4 viewers were in tears after an elderly couple opened up about the tragedy of losing both their children in 24 Hours in A&E.

In tonight's episode, Eve, 83, was brought to the emergency department with her husband John after falling down the stairs into her basement.

She had an open ankle fracture that needed urgent realignment to restore the blood flow to her leg and foot.

It was then revealed the couple had lost one daughter due to bulimia aged 33 and the other from alcohol abuse aged 50.

Eve told viewers they wouldn't 'catch John talking about it' as she explained their heartbreak.

But despite their tragedy, Eve and John have led a very happy marriage.
