Couple's lucky escape as car ploughs into garden wall before fleeing scene

A couple's garden wall was completely destroyed when a car ploughed into it before fleeing the scene.

The garden, belonging to Kevin Davies and his wife Claire, was left ruined by the incident which happened at 9.50am on Wednesday (June 10).

Bricks and part of the garden's decked seating area have been left strewn across the garden's stone steps and lawn, and even a part of the car - number plate included - remained at the scene when the driver left the scene.

The family have spoken of their relief that nobody was in the garden at the time of the crash, while police are now appealing for the driver of a car, believed to be a black BMW, to come forward.

Kevin's son Adam said his father and stepmother were left in shock by the incident, which happened on Gwaunmisken Road in Beddau.

He said: "It's crazy, to be honest with you.

"My stepmother was actually in the kitchen and heard a loud bang. She got up but by that time the car had reversed and driven over all the bricks that were there, and ripped the bottom end of the car off."

Adam said his father's neighbour heard the crash from his house, with the car "screeching" off the road and into the now-destroyed garden wall.

Adam added: "The wall can be rebuilt, and luckily enough there was no one in the garden at the time.

"There are two walls, and the cavity between them is filled with concrete. He must have hit it with quite some force to knock it over."

"The driver of the vehicle which, believed to be a black BMW, made off from the scene of the incident without reporting it.

"The driver of the vehicle is urged to make contact. An investigation into the incident is now underway."
