Couple's horror after waking up to find their back garden looking 'like a swimming pool'

This is the shocking scene that greeted a couple as they looked out on their garden this morning.

Jodie Ellis, 31, drew back the curtains to find her back garden so full of water it looked like a swimming pool due.

A swing set, decking and a shed are nearly submerged at the home she shares with Jenna Ellis, 32, and their young children.

It comes as an amber 'danger to life' weather warning was issued for today by the Met Office for Edinburgh and the east coast of Scotland.

But the rain has also been chucking it down in England, with many areas - like Jodie's in Nottinghamshire - experiencing horrific flooding, according to Nottinghamshire Live .

"The garden has flooded a couple of times before, but not to this extent," said Jodie, who is an NHS administrator and also plays football for Arnold Town.

"We woke up this morning and it was like that. It's about a metre away from the back door, and much deeper at the end of the garden.

"I'm worried about it coming in the back. We have two kids and two dogs and it's worrying."

She added: "You don't know what's coming up through the water. It's dirty water.

"It's never come up this far before."

Jodie said that a neighbour had contacted the Environment Agency asking for sandbags, but they had told her they were too busy to provide assistance.

However, in a response the Environment Agency said they did not provide sandbags.

A spokesperson said: "Some local authorities distribute sandbags and you can check with your local authority to see if they supply sandbags in your area. The Environment Agency does not distribute sandbags.

"Following another wet night across the East Midlands, there is an increased risk of flooding. In Nottinghamshire we issued 4 flood warnings overnight and Flood Alerts remain in in force across the county. We will continue to work with our partners, including local authorities, to maximise protection to people and properties.

“We advise people to stay safe by keeping away from swollen rivers and urge people not to drive through flood water as just 30cm of flowing water is enough to move your car.
