Couple’s heartwarming message engraved on park bench leaves people in tears

Commemorative plaques on park benches are often installed when a loved one passes away, but one woman on TikTok has found a bench with a message that marks a happy occasion.

Tihana, @_tihaaaaaa, shared a video of what she called a “happy bench” which she found in a park in New York City, as the engraving is dedicated to a couple who “decided to live the rest of their lives together” while sitting on that exact bench.

The engraving on the bench’s plaque reads: “On this bench on December 31, 2011, at 5:17pm, David White and Alison Wholey decided to live the rest of their lives together.”

Since the video was posted, David White himself has taken to the comments to give Tihana’s followers an update on his romance with Alison – and they’re still together 10 years after their sweet moment in Cobble Hill Park in Brooklyn.

He wrote: “Still together! Now with kids!”

Tihana’s video has been viewed over 483,000 times, with other commenters so touched by the sweet message that they were reduced to tears.

Someone said: “Happy bench but here I am still crying.”

And another wrote: “I’m sobbing.”

While a third posted: “It may be happy but I’m still crying.”

Others were simply moved by the sentiment of the plaque, as some praised the way the heartwarming dedication was phrased.

A touched commenter wrote: “I love how this is phrased, like they came to the conclusion together as a team ... choosing each other.”

And another noted: “It’s making me cry that Alison’s last name makes the sentence sound as if they both wholly decided to spend their lives together.”

Tihana has several videos of park benches she’s found throughout New York City on her TikTok account, and people have heaped praise on her for bringing more eyes to the touching messages engraved on each one.

One person said on another video: “Thank you, I’ve missed these so much.”

While someone else added: “Wow ... These are so touching and hold such beautiful stories, thanks for sharing.”

And a third posted on a compilation of various plaques: “It’s kind of nice that we are all here crying for other people that we don’t even know. It’s like we are all connected.”
