Couple's flat left full of rubbish, cat faeces and dirty nappies after tenant moves out

Two distraught landlords have shared pictures showing the state of a flat which was trashed by a former tenant.

They said they were stunned to be confronted with cat faeces all over the floor, dirty dishes, soiled underwear and half-eaten food everywhere.

Used sanitary products were also left laying in the bathroom and dirty nappies in a bedroom.

The Falkirk home had been rented to a woman with two children for the past year.

Because of the pandemic, owners Stephen Maxwell and his girlfriend Asha Ramzan, were not able to do regular inspections.

Stephen, 31, told the Daily Record : "It's going to cost me a fortune to get this place sorted again.

"The tenant was pregnant with her second child so my partner Asha decided to give her the flat and even took a small deposit from her as she was a single mother.

"Throughout the year she was issued a warning or two regarding the condition she kept the flat in with excuses such as her stuff from her last flat was damaged during storage so she had to buy more, because she was sleeping on a mattress with her child in the upstairs room.

"She also moaned that the storage heating that was in the flat when she took it on wasn't enough and asked if she could use a government funded grant to get gas and insulation boards fitted.

"I agreed on the basis that anything damaged due to this was replaced.

"The gas people and joiners were forever phoning my partner Asha because of the mess of the house not allowing them to work we have all that info of the company's if needed.

"Then after the gas was finally completed she was suppose to replace the floor that was ripped up but instead decided to leave it and tell us it was getting done when her partner, who was now staying with her, could get his uncle to do it.

"We had a couple issues with inspections as the tenant gave Asha permission to go into the flat via a text message.

"However upon entry Asha was confronted with a horrible smell of cat poo all over the floor, with dishes all over the sink and clothes and half eaten food everywhere.

"Asha told tenant this wasn't an acceptable condition to leave the house in."

They said they were overwhelmed with people offering to help (Stephen Maxwell WS)

Stephen and Asha took to social media yesterday to share photographs off the mess their flat had been left in, which gathered loads of support from their pals.

They even received messages from strangers- who turned up at the house to help clear the flat and take rubbish to the dump.

Asha, 28, said: "I honestly can't thank everyone enough for their help and support.

"I am due my baby in four weeks and this is the last thing we both needed - I was exhausted yesterday after gutting the flat.

"We've had so many messages from random people asking to help and about 10 showed up at the house yesterday to help clear the place. Including a couple from Airdrie.

"I felt sorry for the tenant.

"I really don't know how anyone can live like that - or do that to someone."
