Police watched as a couple attempted to swap places in the front seat of a moving truck after they were requested to pull over in Gungahlin on Friday afternoon.
About 3.35pm, police on patrol in Nicholls observed a man enter and drive off in an Isuzu light truck.
They followed the vehicle into Gungahlin, stopped adjacent to the truck at a set of traffic lights on The Valley Avenue, and indicated to the man driving to pull over.
However, when the light turned green, police alleged the man accelerated heavily, drove over the median strip on Gungahlin Drive, before swerving several times onto Kosciuszko Avenue.
While the vehicle was moving, the officers observed the driver and his female passenger swapping their positions in the truck.
After the truck stopped on Kosciuszko Avenue, police checks revealed the man's licence had expired in February 2019.
The man also returned a positive roadside test result to a prescribed drug and was taken into custody for formal oral fluid analysis. This test returned positive indications to both methylamphetamine and cannabis.
The man had bail conditions which included not to drive unless licensed and not to drive with a prescribed substance in his blood or oral fluid.
The 40-year-old will face the ACT Magistrates Court on Sunday morning charged with drug driving, unlicensed driving, and failing to stop for police.
