Couple renewed their vows in their dining room during the lockdown... one son got ordained on the internet, the other was best man - and their daughter was a bridesmaid

When Scott and Natalie Mclaughlin realised they were going to be celebrating their 10-year wedding anniversary in lockdown, they couldn't believe their luck.

The couple, from Heaton Norris, Stockport, were originally due to marry in April 2010.

But an Icelandic volcano erupted, dashing their dreams of a beautiful wedding in Cyprus.

Natalie, 39, managed to throw a last-minute wedding in England a week later. The couple, who have three children, have been happily married ever since.

When it dawned on the husband and wife that their special anniversary would fall during the lockdown, they saw it as a sign.

The couple decided to renew their vows with their three children, aged 18, 13 and eight, in their dining room.

Their 18-year-old son Tyler got ordained online to perform the ceremony. Finlay, 13, was appointed as Scott's best man - and eight-year-old Scarlett was her mum's bridesmaid.

The family decorated their dining room with fairy lights, threw together a buffet, and created a make-shift dance floor to celebrate the occasion on Saturday, May 2.

And it looked fantastic.

"It's quite a funny story because we should have got married in April 2010 in Cyprus but our wedding was cancelled because of the Icelandic volcano eruption," Natalie said.

"I somehow managed to get a marriage certificate for this country, and arranged a full wedding for our friends and family in a week at the Waterside Hotel in Didsbury.

"When we realised our 10-year wedding anniversary was going to fall during coronavirus, we couldn't believe it."

It was 40-year-old Scott's idea to renew their wedding vows.

"We always wanted to do something to celebrate and always said we would renew our vows so he thought, why not just do it in lockdown," Natalie added.

Their youngest daughter Scarlett wasn't born when the couple got married, so Natalie ordered her a bridesmaid dress and flowery headband for the special day.

"My eldest son managed to get ordained on the internet and we bought him a vicars costume so he looked the part," Natalie said.

"We got some vows sent to us and I wore a wedding dress that I managed to get online, with a little tiara.

"Scott's family are Scottish, so he and best man Finlay wore kilts, and Scarlett absolutely loved getting dressed up."

At Natalie and Scott's original wedding, all their guests got up to dance for the song 'I would walk 500 miles' - so the family of five reenacted it and sent a video to friends and family.

"We thought, just because we are stuck in lockdown it doesn't mean we shouldn't celebrate," Natalie said.

"It just shows how strong our marriage is and that we are meant to be together."
