Couple refuse to pay £140 parking fine saying they weren't parked there as long as it's being claimed

A couple are refusing to pay a £140 parking fine because they say they had left the car park before their three hour time limit was up.

Craig and Lisa Booth did park twice in one day at Mostyn Champneys in Llandudno , but they said that each time they were back in time.

They are being accused of parking at the retail park for eight hours and 31 minutes.

Lisa, 35, said she had left the car park within the three hour time limit and returned later to finish off Christmas shopping.

Craig and Lisa Booth, from Llandudno Junction, are contesting a £140 parking fine they have racked up with CP Plus who run the car park at Mostyn Champneys (Craig Booth)

Cardiff parking charges hiked by up to 20%

CP Plus, which issued the fine, believes the car remained in the car park for the full eight hours.

Craig said the fine had now gone up to £140, but he wasn't prepared to back down.

The 35-year-old said: " On December 20 my wife went shopping at Mostyn Champneys and then left to pick up our son from school, she was in the car park for around two hours.

"Later on that evening we all returned to the retail park at around 8pm and left at 9.04pm, we certainly didn't park there for eight hours.

"Can anybody shop that long in Llandudno?"

Cardiff Bay car park to double in size to meet growing demands

He said it appeared that CP Plus' cameras had failed to pick up Lisa leaving the retail park or returning later in the evening.

"Because the cameras have failed to pick up those images it means it looks like we have parked there for over eight hours," he added.

"We have since received increasing charges and threatening letters from CP Plus demanding us to pay for a service we have not received."

CP Plus said it would look at any evidence provided, but that an independent ombudsman had already reviewed the case and found no fault.
