A couple that has been married for 82 years has shared their simple advice for making marriage last.
D W Williams, 103, and Willie Williams, 100, recently celebrated their anniversary and their birthdays in a joint party thrown by their daughter and granddaughter at First Mayfield Memorial Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, WSOC-TV reported.
While reminiscing on their lengthy marriage, which spanned the Great Depression and the Civil Rights era, the couple shared the key to making love last - kindness.
"I don't have no secret for that, just be nice to each other,” Willie Williams told the news outlet.
The couple’s granddaughter BJ Williams-Greene also shared a few things she’s learned about relationships from watching her grandparents over the years.
“It’s communication and loving each other and working together,” she said. “They are each other’s best friend.
“To see them at this age and still doing well, it’s just a blessing to have them here.”
As for what the couple would do if they had another 100 years, Willie said they would “sit around the house”.
The couple celebrated their birthdays, which are just seven days apart, earlier this month.
