Couple living at house where toddler Eve Leatherland was murdered say she's 'bringing light' into their home

The couple living at the house where toddler Eve Leatherland was brutally murdered two years ago say she's bringing light to their home.

Eve tragically died at the age of 22 months.

A court found she was killed by her mother's partner at their home in Liskeard, Cornwall, in October 2017.

On March 29, her mum Abigail Leatherland, 26, who moved to Liskeard from Mansfield, was jailed for three and a half years after being convicted of causing or allowing a child to die.

Her ex-boyfriend Thomas Curd, 31, from Watford, was found guilty of Eve's murder and jailed for life with a minimum of 20 years.

They were sent to prison after after being convicted by a jury.

Lauren Nicholson and Paul Flint were the first people to live in property after the murder, moving in exactly 12 months to the day after Eve died, reports Cornwall Live.

The couple believe their home is being kept “nice and light” by the innocent toddler.

“We didn’t know about it when we first agreed to rent the place, I was aware of the story before, and it’s so horrific, the details, it’s so sad,” Lauren said.

“He (Paul) came back and told me [about the death] before we moved in, and I sat there and was like, ‘Oh God’.

“It’s just a real shame it had to happen here. But our landlord he is wonderful. He is a reverend and he is one of the nicest guys I know.

"He’s such a good person.

“We feel that this house is quite a light house, it’s such a dark thing to happen but it [doesn’t reflect on the house].

“We’ve had so many people coming in saying it’s such a beautiful light space, and we truly believe that little innocent one has kept this place nice and light.”

Lauren added her friend was Eve’s Godmother.

“I went to school with her and she’s just distraught about it all," Lauren said.

“I’m local to Liskeard. We came back last year after moving away for a few years, and to hear something like that happen in our home town was a bit scary really."

Lauren added the couple wanted to send their love to Eve's father, Dean Bird, who, like them, is a tattoo artist.

“We own a tattoo shop in town, and just want to send our love out to him really, someone in our fellow industry.

“Eve seemed like a beautiful little soul, all the pictures of her, beautiful.”
