Couple leave £1,500 tip for waitress left broke after her husband died suddenly

A kindhearted couple gave a waitress a £1,500 tip on Christmas Eve after they heard a hefty car repair bill left her broke.

Lynette Baio, who works at Speggtacular in Florida, US,  was forced to pay $2,000 (£1,500) to repair her car which was damaged when she avoided a crash.

The unexpected bill left her without a penny over Christmas and when the regular customers asked her how she was doing she told them about her car problems, Bay News 9 reports.

When the couple settled their bill they told Lynette they had left "something" on the table for her which turned out to be their generous tip.

Lynette said: "When I picked the plate up there was a $2,000 check. It said 'Merry Christmas and restore your savings. God bless you.' I cried."

The widow has worked at the eatery for five years and was left financially-strapped after her husband died suddenly two years ago.

She said: "I still haven't been able to catch up financially. Your bills stay the same and your money cuts in half.

"I'm so blessed and so grateful."

The generous gift from the couple, who wish to be anonymous, means Lynette was able to buy some of her family members Christmas presents and the rest she plans to save.

She said she plans to save the rest of the money and she's already thinking about how she can fulfill a promise she made to the couple to pay it forward.

"I am a firm believer in paying it forward and one day I hope that God will bless me and let me be able to pay it forward," Lynette said .
