Couple in hospital after jumping from upstairs windows to escape devastating fire

Two people were forced to jump out of their home to escape a devastating fire which ripped through a terraced property in south Leeds in the middle of the night.

The blaze, which started at around 1am this morning (Wednesday), engulfed the living room in flames at the house on Trentham Road, Beeston.

The residents were forced to jump out of the building from the first and second storeys in their desperate escape.

One person suffered serious leg injuries in the dramatic scenes. The other resident suffered minor injuries and both have been taken to hospital for treatment.

The blaze spread so quickly across the ground floor of the house that the couple were forced to act before fire crews arrived.

Two crews from Hunslet station were sent to the scene, while the aerial ladder platform from Leeds was also used. Firefighters used breathing apparatus, two hosereels and a positive pressure ventilation fan to put out the fire.
