Couple get engaged at George Square in sweet Christmas proposal caught on camera

A mum-of-two from Lanarkshire was given the surprise of her life as her boyfriend popped the question in Glasgow's George Square.

Megan Brown was so shocked when she turned around to see Ryan Patterson down on one knee that she couldn't do anything but scream.

The 28-year-old and her now fiance were heading to Paolo Nutini's gig at the OVO Hydro on Tuesday night when they stopped in George Square to look at the Christmas lights with friends.

It was there that Ryan pulled out a ring and asked Megan to be his wife.

Speaking to Glasgow Live, Megan said: "We had just finished dinner at Bella Italia with friends and we were going to see Paolo Nutini.

"One of our friends said they wanted to see the Christmas lights in George Square but I said I was too cold and wanted the car keys to drive down.

"When we got there, everyone was acting strange and then I just turned round and Ryan was down on one knee. I was in such a shock and was screaming and swearing, I just couldn't believe it."

Megan eventually said yes, once she had screamed some more, and the happy couple enjoyed a night at Paolo after it. However, Megan was too distracted to take the gig in.

She added: "I felt like I couldn't walk, my legs were like jelly. It just didn't feel real. I couldn't focus on Paolo as I just kept thinking 'did that just happen'. It was honestly such a shock.

"I even asked Ryan how he got my ring size and he told me he bought a ring sizer on Amazon and did it while I was sleeping. I couldn't believe it."

The couple, from Shotts, are still on cloud nine after first meeting on Facebook two years ago. They welcomed a little girl Emme back in February and are looking forward to celebrating with their friends and family soon.
