Couple get engaged at Coldplay concert as crowd sings Sky Full of Stars and she had no idea what was coming

A couple got engaged during Coldplay's concert in Cardiff on Wednesday night. Craig Davies proposed to his long-time girlfriend of eight years, Lauren Fennelly, during the Sky Full of Stars performance, which is her favourite song.

Lauren told WalesOnline that she had no idea what was coming, and had no suspicions as they headed off to bottomless brunch with friends in Cardiff before heading to the gig. As the crowd and band sang Sky Full of Stars in the Principality Stadium, Craig got down on one knee to propose and was met by a huge cheer as everyone around them celebrated the special moment.

The 22-year-old said: "I didn’t have any idea about it - I was just in shock. All my friends and family knew apart from me -obviously - and I’m over the moon. I went to the concert with our friends Sophie and Liam and my sister was in the video as well. It was to my favourite song too, so he did good." Sign up to our What's on newsletter here

This was the Merthyr couple's first Coldplay concert, so Lauren was “super excited” and has always been a Coldplay fan. "I love them,” she said.

Lauren and Craig, 26, have been together since 2015 and met through mutual friends. The couple also have a one-year-old boy together named Leo. She added that Craig had asked her mother for permission to marry her the day before the show, and she is still “taking it all in” at the moment.

It's been six years since Coldplay last performed in Cardiff but on Tuesday, June 6, they brought the first of two consecutive sell-out gigs to the Welsh capital. The night was full of surprises as Bridgend Male Voice Choir performed Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau while Kelly Jones was the special guest for the night, and he sang Dakota.
