Couple from Nottinghamshire drive more than 50 miles to take selfie at beauty spot

A couple from Nottinghamshire were caught out by police after they drove more than 50 miles to take a selfie at a beauty spot.

Police officers spotted the couple after they arrived at The Roaches in the Staffordshire Moorlands, having travelled from Notts.

After approaching the couple, they admitted their mistake and officers advised them of the rules around travelling during lockdown, Stoke on Trent Live reports.

No penalty notice was issued on this occasion.

Chief Inspector Mark Thorley, commander of Staffordshire Police's Moorlands local policing team, tweeted about the incident.

He said: "This couple had driven from Notts to take a selfie in the Roaches. 'I’ve been stupid haven’t I?' was the response to 'Hi, where have you travelled from?'

"Ask your self before travelling, is it essential I travel so far to exercise? The advice given was taken on the chin and a lesson learned."

While the majority of people have been compliant with the regulations, but as the UK lockdown enters its fourth week, a small few continue to flout the rules.

In recent weeks, officers in the Moorlands have dealt with people travelling to the area from Birmingham and Burton.

Previously, Chief Inspector Thorley issued the following advice: "For everyone's safety, please avoid unnecessary travel to access the path network and take your exercise as close to home as possible."
