Couple found dead at house on 'Millionaire's Row' as police launch investigation

A couple has been found dead at a house on a road dubbed 'Millionaire's Row' leaving the community shocked.

The elderly couple was discovered at a property on Kenilworth Road, Coventry, by paramedics on Tuesday .

Detectives subsequently launched an investigation but have said they are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

The couple has been named locally as Sewa and Sukhjit Badial although West Midlands Police has not officially released names at this stage, Coventry Live reports.

A police spokesman said the man who died was in his 80s and the woman was 73.

It has been reported that the couple ran the the long-established Badial department store on Soho Road in Handsworth, Birmingham.

It is described on its Facebook page as an Asian fashion house with "high quality fashion and bridal garments for ladies, gentlemen and children".

Coventry Live spoke to people in neighbouring properties, who expressed their shock at the couple's deaths.

A landscape gardener working at a neighbouring home, who has worked on the road for more than 30 years, said: "It is shocking whenever it happens - someone dying next door - for whatever reason."

He said that he should have been at the neighbouring property he works at on Tuesday morning but had not been there as usual as his van had broken down.

"My van broke down on the way but in a way I'm glad I wasn't here," he added.

He said that the owner of the property he works at was not at home at the time either but that a housekeeper arrived to discover a heavy police presence and a fire service appliance.

The couple who died were known to the gardener, and he said he had spoken to the man who lived there recently.

"They have always been pretty pleasant people as far as the owner here is concerned.

"However they have also kept themselves to themselves, as do many people around here."

Another man, who lives opposite with his son, said that police had come to speak to them following the couple's deaths.

He said people were shocked but added that neither he nor his son knew the couple who had died.

Kenilworth Road is home to some of Coventry's most expensive homes.

It is characterised by large properties, the majority of them gated, surrounded by land and featuring long driveways.

West Midlands Police told Birmingham Live Wednesday: "An investigation has been launched after the bodies of a man and woman were discovered at an address in Coventry.

"Officers were directed by ambulance colleagues to a property in Kenilworth Road just before 3pm yesterday afternoon, June 29, following the discovery of the body of a man in his 80s in the back garden.

"The body of a 73-year-old woman was subsequently found inside the address.

"The couple have not yet been formally identified but are believed to be husband and wife.

"Detectives are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

"Forensic post-mortem examinations will take place in due course.

"The house has been cordoned off while enquiries continue to establish the circumstances that led to their deaths."
