Couple expecting baby ran cannabis-dealing enterprise from home

A drug-dealing couple were found with around £2,000 worth of cannabis after police raided a house in Cardiff. Mobile phone evidence proved both of them were involved and aware of the enterprise.

Jay Hill, 27, and Aimee McCue, 26, were both concerned in supplying cannabis to customers with the operation based at McCue's home in Splott. Officers executed a warrant at the house on January 13 last year where they discovered 368.1g of cannabis and £895 in cash.

A phone belonging to Hill was analysed and found to contain text messages indicative of drug dealing. Some of the messages showed him supplying a kilogram of cannabis over the period of a week and discussed the quality of the drugs.

McCue's phone was also analysed and contained texts from people asking her if Hill had any drugs available. She also sent messages to Hill complaining about her property being used to sell cannabis. Speaking at a sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court James Evans said the messages proved she was aware of the enterprise and involved.

Hill, of Tweedsmuir Road, Tremorfa, and McCue, of Deemuir Road, Splott, both pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cannabis. Hill also pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cannabis and McCue pleaded guilty to permitting the use of premises for the supply of cannabis. The court heard the male defendant was given a suspended sentence in 2020 for possession with intent to supply cannabis, which he is in breach of.

Christopher Evans, for McCue, said his client was pregnant and was due to give birth in June. He said she wasn't dealing herself but was aware of the operation run by Hill while she worked at the Traders Tavern pub in Cardiff with her mother.

Abigail Jackson, for Hill, said her client has taken considerable steps to address his issues and to reduce his cannabis consumption and is now employed as a delivery driver. She said he already has one son and is expecting another child with McCue.

Sentencing the couple Recorder Duncan Bould said: "Mr Hill you were the prime mover in the dealing of cannabis and you Ms McCue at least in part allowed your premises to be used for that purpose and had your eyes open wide whether you liked what was going on or not." McCue cried as her partner Hill was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment. She was sentenced to a 12-month community order and ordered to carry out a rehabilitation activity requirement of six days.
