Couple didn't want to pay for a taxi so walked home along the hard shoulder of M60

A couple who didn't want to pay for a taxi were spotted walking home along the hard shoulder of the M60, police say.

The pair had just been out for a meal in Manchester and eagle-eyed traffic officers spotted them walking down the motorway.

Writing on Twitter, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police's Traffic Unit said the pair had been spotted by a passing car.

They said: "XT18 saw these two pedestrians walking down the hard shoulder [of the] M60.

"Turns out they had been out for a meal and didn't want to pay for a taxi home, so decided to walk home...along the motorway."

Both of them were issued a Traffic Offence Report (TOR) and 'taken to safety'.

A picture of the pair, with blurred-out faces, shows them walking along the hard shoulder near a slip road at 11.35pm last night.

Officers posted the image on social media.
