Young couple who don't have long together want a dream wedding

A young man who was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer wants to marry "the love of his life" in a "dream wedding".

Danny Thomas, 28, was diagnosed with Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia in September last year.

He went to Arrowe Park Hospital after suffering pains in his stomach and was told he had cancer, before undergoing rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Danny, from New Brighton, proposed to his long term girlfriend Georgina Eakins after his cancer returned following an unsuccessful bone marrow transplant.

Danny's sister, Sally Thomas, told the ECHO: "They're aiming [to get married inn] September which is only two months away. They're planning on doing it quickly for reasons to do with Danny's illness, we don't know how long Danny has left.

"They're going to try a treatment with him where it won't get rid of the cancer but it will stop it progressing.

"They've started that but Danny doesn't have a time frame. He wants to live life to the fullest before cancer takes it away from him."

Danny's high school best friend, Nick Haldane, has set up a GoFundMe page to help raise funds for the wedding.

The fundraising page says: "[Danny] received a [bone marrow donor] match from Germany and that was his hope for a new life. Sadly the bone marrow transplant didn’t take as well as we hoped.

"Sadly the cancer came back. There are a few treatments left to try for Danny. Danny’s first thought when finding this news out was to promise what time he has left to his loving and caring partner Georgina.

"They are now engaged to be married. We don’t know what time we have left with Danny as cancer is unpredictable and aggressive.

"So we want him to make his dream come true and marry the love of his life soon as possible. I am appealing to see if anyone would like to help make Danny and Georgina's special day a memory they will never forget."

So far, the page has raised nearly £1,500 of the £5,00 target. Sally said: "Thank you to everyone who has donated. [Danny] was shocked that anyone would donate. People think 'it's only £5', but it does make a massive difference to his life.

"He always says that Georgina is the love of his life and he wants to be able to give her everything, and he can't give her the future he wanted to so he at least wants to give her the wedding day that she deserves."
