Couple demand refund for concert ‘because Ukraine war makes it unsafe to travel’

A couple who asked for a full refund to a gig have been branded entitled after claiming they couldn’t travel because of the invasion of Ukraine - but it was in Blackpool.

The comedy club hit back after the pair cheekily asked for their money back in an email stating that the escalating war between Russian and Ukraine had made it unsafe for them to travel.

Within the complaint the couple demanded a full refund on tickets for the venue’s Saturday Night Laughs show “due to events in Russia and Ukrayne [sic] it is not safe for us to travel as we are both retired”.

The couple who were travelling to the Blackpool gig from Hull made the ludicrous claim before signing off: “Due to this it’s safer we stay nearer to home until it is sorted.”

According to a member of staff it is thought the chancers phoned the box office and demanded their money back, only for staff to refuse but say they could schedule their tickets for another date.

“I DO NOT want that because I don’t know how long this will go on for,” the customer said.

“He showed me so called terms and conditions - which I did not read when I booked the tickets a few week ago [sic] like nobody does and nowhere in them does it say anything about no refunds FOR A WAR.”

Screenshots of the demands were shared by the club and included references to vulgar language directed towards a staff member, according to Hull Live.

In the club’s email response, manager Ryan Gleeson told the customer that they wouldn’t be issuing refunds over a war in another country.

The email stated: “As Rob mentioned, you are not entitled to a refund, simply because you live ‘nearer to Russia than we do’.”

Screenshots of the emails have since been shared hundreds of times after being posted by Comedy Station on Twitter.

“We genuinely didn’t think we’d need to say this, but Russia moving troops into Ukraine does not entitle you to a refund, no matter how abusive you are to our Box Office staff,” they said in a tweet.

“As far as we’re aware, Russia hasn’t invaded Hull yet.”
