One of Britain’s most haunted homes has just been snapped up – and the new owners say the paranormal activity has already started.
Amy Waine, 35, and Jarrad Cutting, 37, couldn’t resist when they heard from a friend that The Cage was on the market. The pair, who run the ghost-hunting social media site Amy’s Crypt, have spent years travelling the world chasing hauntings – but now they’ve got a seriously spooky spot of their own, reported The Daily Star.
The house, tucked away in the pretty village of St Osyth in Essex, has a grim history. It was once a prison where accused witches, including local midwife and healer Ursula Kemp, were locked up in 1582. After a falling out with a local family, Ursula was accused of witchcraft and was one of three women hanged after being held in The Cage.
Since then, the building has terrified its residents. Over the years, people have reported seeing ghostly figures and even being pushed by invisible hands. And it looks like the hauntings haven’t stopped.
Amy said: “We haven’t owned the property for long but have already had a number of experiences we aren’t able to explain. Mostly things like sounds or smells, but we’ve also had objects move on their own.
“We just recently hooked up some surveillance cameras around the house so we’re crossing our fingers we’re able to experience more and even capture it on film.”
While they’re keen to catch some spooky action, Amy said their main focus for now is on saving the historic building: “It’s fallen into a bit of disrepair due to sitting empty for so long. After that, we hope to make it a comfortable place where we can investigate, conduct experiments and maybe one day share it with others interested in the paranormal.”
Jarrad explained how they ended up making the life-changing purchase: “The property came to us in passing when talking about it with some friends who had visited The Cage many years prior. I’d asked them about their visit and they responded: ‘Did you know the house is currently for sale?’
“I wasn’t aware of this, but the seed had been planted enough for us to visit the property, fall in love and place an offer.
“I’d heard so many stories about The Cage before this and was excited at the prospect of owning a haunted property to take our work in the paranormal field to the next level.” With their cameras rolling and ghost stories swirling, it looks like Amy and Jarrad are in for a truly chilling adventure.
