Couple branded 'greedy' for 'tacky' wedding invites demanding money to cover costs

A bride and groom have sparked controversy by asking guests to their big day to help cover the costs.

The Aussie lovebirds faced a backlash after they asked people to put $100, about £56 towards, towards their big day.

The pair sent out a "wishing well" card ahead of the ceremony urging recipients to "pull out your greens and let it be seen."

The term 'greens' included in their poem is another word for $100 because of the colour of the note.

The Mirror reports poem on the card reads: "Our bank account is in debt, and we would like it to go back into credit.

"Please visit the ATM, we know you're a gem.

"Pull out your greens and let it be seen that your kindness is real when it's given its final seal.

"So place your cash in our wishing well and make our dreams come true, that will be swell."

A photo of the card was shared on Facebook by the invitation designer - and it's since gone viral, reports Daily Mail.

"Eeek ... I feel like the choice of words about the wishing well is a bit ... tacky?" wrote the Facebook user who shared it to a wedding shaming page.

Many people online were shocked by the couple's request, as one person said: "Oh wow. I’ve always wondered what the polite way to ask for money is. I know this ain’t it."

Another replied: "Greedy. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had an actual ATM at their wedding."

But others were more horrified by the poem itself, as a different user added: "I’m more offended by that terrible attempt at rhyming and poetry."

Whilst someone else branded it a "crime".
