A couple from Mexico who bought a Cork record store by accident have told of their happy ever after.
Claudia Hernandez and her hubby Erwin became the hapless proprietors of the Thirty-three Record Shop after seeing an ad on Facebook which they thought was a joke.
Now the tech professionals from Mexico City have opened the store on McCurtain Street and hope to turn it into a gig space.
Claudia revealed: “Erwin and I moved over here with our two dogs to work for Bord Gais and Apple.
“It was a big culture change but we grew to love our home in Blackrock.
“One of the things that helped us settle in was starting a record collection.”
When the mum-of-two spotted an ad for a record shop on Facebook marketplace curiosity got the better of her.
She told Cork Beo: “I was so curious, I didn’t know you could buy things like that online, to be honest I thought it was a joke.”
Her husband Erwin convinced her to give it a chance and together they went to check it out.
“Then we met the man who was selling it and looked around the space, and I couldn’t help but imagine what we could turn it into, the new kinds of music we could introduce and the little community that could start here,” Claudia said.
The shop is coming up on its two months anniversary and the couple say that things are going well as everything begins to open up again.
“We are hoping to meet music fans over the jazz festival, and we are excited that now as restrictions are hopefully lifting people will come in and say hello and get to know us, our business neighbours have been really welcoming, so we are excited for the future here,” Claudia said.
