Couple assaulted in suspected homophobic attack in east London

Police have launched an investigation after a man and his partner were assaulted in a suspected homophobic attack.

The pair, aged in their 20s, were accosted by around six men on High Road in Chadwell Heath at 5.30pm on Sunday.

The group shouted abuse and made threats at the couple before punching one on the head, causing cuts and bruising.

One of the victims required hospital treatment following the attack. He has since been discharged.

No arrests have been made and police continue to investigate the circumstances around the incident.

A Met Police spokesperson said the incident is being treated as a homophobic assault.

A dedicated LGBTQ+ liaison officer has oversight of the investigation and is providing support to the victims, they added.
