Couple addicted to tanning injections horrified by terrifying health warning

A couple who are addicted to tanning injections were left stunned by terrifying health warning on today's This Morning.

Hannah Tittensor, 22, and boyfriend Ben Dunlop, 23, have been accused of trying to change their race by using the illegal jabs and sunbeds.

The pair, from Belfast, have dramatically changed their appearance over the last few years after falling out of love with spray tans.

They explained that they have no plans to stop using the tanning injections despite nasty side effects and Ben being rushed to hospital with an infection.

This Morning viewers were shocked when the couple made a worrying discovery live on air.

Presenter Phillip Schofield revealed that the NHS says anyone using Melanotan should "stop immediately for their own safety".

Hannah and Ben confessed they were not aware of the dangers of injecting their bodies with the 'under-the-counter' substance.

Hannah said she first found out about tanning injections when her brother Jack tried them in 2015.

On why she was so dark, she confessed: "We just gradually got there. I think we're actually quite toned down now. We've been darker."

On the side effects, she said: "It made me feel quite sick. It's a cold sensation in your stomach. For a few days then it would go away."

Ben admitted he was "put off" when he was taken to hospital for a bacterial infection caused by something in the tanning product.

He said his mum was very much against it, but Hannah claimed her mother was "a bit of a pushover".

They were also quizzed on claims they are trying to become another race.

Hannah said: "Online I get a lot of hate for it. Such bad things. Shallow things. I'd be better off killing myself. Such horrible things just for a tan."

Shocked This Morning viewers took to Twitter after watching the controversial interview.

One viewer said: "Those young people have been putting untested drugs in their bodies and they were not even aware of how dangerous this was? Flipping heck."

Another added: "I think people should look how they want to, but the danger they could be doing to their bodies is scary."

A third said: "I’m sorry but this couple looks ridiculous there was nothing wrong with them before"

*This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10.30am
