County with best coronavirus incident rate per population in Ireland

The county with the best incidence rate of coronavirus per population in Ireland was revealed today.

New data provided by the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) shows that Waterford has the best incidence rate of Covid-19 per 100,000 people in the last two weeks.

The county's IR per 100,000 is 66.3, falling under the likes of Carlow on 75.5 and Tipperary on 77.7.

Waterford has seen just 77 cases in the past two weeks up to midnight on October 12 despite spiralling numbers elsewhere.

The national rate is now 177.2 per 100,000, as a further 811 cases were announced today.

Waterford reported just seven of those.

These figures are based on 2016 Census county population numbers.
