A great day’s cricket round the grounds. Marnus Labuschagne wins the race to a thousand Championship runs, with double-centurion Dom Sibley close on his tail; another dream day in a dream match for Brett D’Oliveria; a super win for Northants at Hove - chapeau Ben Sanderson - doughty runs for Dawid Malan and lots to look forward to at Scarborough and Taunton. Worrying times for Sussex, Notts and James Anderson, who limped off at Sedbergh with a dodgy right calf. Thanks for all the comments and emails, have a lovely evening and see you in the morning. Good night!

The runs they keep on coming. Dawid Malan 159 not out with stoic back up from John Simpson, 57 not out: Middx 383-6. I’d better go and write up - bat-watch for me.
Marnus Labuschagne is the first to 1000 Championship runs!
I know it is sacrilegious but there is no available picture in the daffodil I’m afraid. He’s currently 70 not out, his ninth score of fifty plus this season.

A riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.
WICKET | A mix-up in the middle sees Slater run out for 10. Samit Patel comes to the middle with Notts 40-3 in their second innings.

Dom Sibley now has the biggest century of the Daddy-pitch at Canterbury: 168 not out. And a little love to Dawid Malan - 132 not out at Derby. Middx still trail by 233 but he’s probably saved the game.
So, that 393 run defeat was Northants largest runs victory in their history and Sussex’s heaviest runs defeat. And Northants’ first win of the season! Ring the bells Northampton, ring the bells.

Northamptonshire beat Sussex by 393 runs
Sussex crawl to 105 all out. Hutton 4-32, Sanderson 4-18.
Somehow Worcestershire v Glamorgan fell out of my eyeline and whadda you know Worcestershire have batted like princes. All out 370, a defecit of only 79, with Brett D’Oliveria out for 103. What has he been breakfasting on this match?

Notts 25 for two. Time for Joe Clarke to just trudge away to a boring, stodgy, tiresome 42 off 198 balls. It would make everyone feel a lot better.
Sussex need 407 to win with three wickets in hand. Brett Hutton, Nathan Buck and Ben Sanderson have figures to die for. And a huge hand for Ben Brown - 41 not out in a list of six single figure scores.
At Canterbury, Dom Sibley nearing 150. Somerset have a lead of 258 over Hampshire at Taunton, with Banton and Bartlett at the crease. Yorkshire need to be careful, - the lead is only 149 with Kohler-Cadmore and Tattersall in.
And at Edgbaston, Rishabh Pant has taken the gloves, with Dhoni off the field and Bangladesh 51-1 chasing 315. A review....
Never hesitate ... Lancashire 60/5.

Ah, I realise that Rob Jones isn’t out, apologies, but Alex Davies is. Ah, and so is Liam Livingstone. Lancs 56-4.
I thought to myself, I better glance at the Notts score before making a coffee... Mullaney b Porter 0, off the 16th ball of the innings. Notts 2/0, with power to add.
Another wicket at Sedbergh, but not before Liam Livingstone has made the scoreboard look a bit more cheerful with a speedy 34. His partner Rob Jones is the man out, off Rimmington for 15. Lancs 53-3.
Adam Lyth out! caught behind off the walking grand piano Rikki Clarke! Yorkshire 162-3.
Written for England women, Sussex (46-4) and Notts fans feel free to borrow.
(actually it’s out of date, England Women 52/5)

OOOh, Essex have declared. This adds a bit of spice to the afternoon. Notts walk out to bat with a deficit of 306.
Adam Lyth 62 not out at Scarborough, dropped on fifty at backward point by Jordan Clark. His second fifty of the game. Fraine and Ballance gone - Yorkies 144-2 have a lead of 109.
Brett Hutton getting stuck into Sussex- two for 22. Can Sussex (39 for 2) last till tea? Supper?
And another wicket for Keith Barker at Taunton. James Hildreth for two. Cricket playing its great leveller card.
Something in those Tuesday lunch-boxes. Perhaps it was breakaway day. Wickets at Canterbury (Yates for 3); Trent Bridge (Harmer for 20); Taunton (Abell for 58); Derby (Scott for 23); Sophia Gardens (Joe Leach for 16); as well as Jennings and Hass for one and three ball ducks respectively.
And congratulations Dom Sibley for your (riffles through papers) fourth first-class century of the year.
And, riches upon riches! Geoff Lemon is OBOing the Women’s Ashes - where Australia have won the toss and are bowling, and England have had a ho-hum start.

Bad news for Lancashire and England from Sedbergh
Jimmy Anderson has pulled out of his run-up and is hobbling off the field.
Bad news for @lancscricket and maybe @englandcricket as Jimmy Anderson walks off the pitch half way through an over. He pulled up three times. May be his Achilles on his right leg.#bbccricket pic.twitter.com/HVBYiKOfqp

Thank you Diana for your email, very well put:
“I have just read the story of the boy welcomed by Mr Mitty. What an appalling experience for a teenager- and thank goodness for the kindness of strangers. I take my hat off to those who offered love and warmth when faced with the cold stare of the Home Office! All power to the Afghan team.”
Oh my, someone has wound Ollie Robinson up again - three wickets this morning! He deserves better than Sussex’s batting. Northants 265 for seven.

A second for Gregory! Hampshire all out 349, which gives Somerset a lead of 61, and in fact they’ve already scurried out. 1-0 off three balls.
It seems Jason Gillespie has been getting abuse from angry Sussex supporters in the stands. There is the anonymity that comes with shouting abuse in a huge crowd. But to shout abuse from a CC crowd...you’d have to be bold as well as a bit of a pillock.
Thank you James- I understand the passion of our supporters. We value all your support.#GOSBTS https://t.co/kVe9fpNXYK

It must be unusual for Lewis Gregory to take only one wicket in an innings this year, and for it to be the ninth. Tom Alsop gone - Hampshire 349-9, trail by 59. And Ollie Robinson on the march again, bowling Rob Keogh, his second of the innings. Northants 234-5.
And an early wicket at Trent Bridge, where Stuart Broad gets Nick Browne lbw without adding to his overnight 163. I wonder how that feels? Does it dent all the thrills from the day before?
So much to read and watch and listen to. (Incidentally, I fear Bangladesh may live to regret dropping Rohit.)

Preamble
Is there a word for when the days are at their longest and you feel a sudden pang that the summer has just started ebbing away? That’s how I felt yesterday evening watching the sun set in its most audacious feathers and robes from the train window on the way back from watching West Indies nearly get out of jail at Durham. It was 10.20pm.
Is there a word for when you feel a sharp pang of sadness that summer has just started inching away @RobGMacfarlane ? Yorkshire sunset from the train 10.20pm last night. pic.twitter.com/v49bk0ApMt

Enough! No need to get maudlin yet, still plenty of long, long evenings, and many more days of cricket. Eight games still at play even in this round. Everything has moved on a pace in a day. At Canterbury, where Kent were bowled out for 59 a couple of weeks ago, batsmen are living the dream. Nailed on double-century stand for Sibley and Rhodes by lunch. Notts in the stink again at Trent Bridge - though funny that Alastair Cook is the only Essex batsman not to pass forty. Good to see Jamie Overton gathering yet more wickets at Taunton and another intriguing game building at Scarborough.
In Div 2, Middlesex are in a vulnerable position; Glamorgan on top AGAIN against Worcestershire; Durham putting up a good fight against Onions and Anderson at Sedbergh and Sussex falling flat at Hove.
