Well that’s it for this Roses match - Yorkshire have beaten Lancashire by 175 runs after Rashid picked up the final wicket of Jarvis. Rashid finishes with 4-17 but it was Bresnan who was the real stand out bowler in his first Championship match of the season. He’s finished with 4-36. The last five Lancashire wickets fell for just 12 runs in ten overs.
Yorkshire take the new ball and Tim Bresnan gets immediate results with the wicket of Wagner who is strangled down the leg side from his second delivery for two. The old ball picked up a bonus wicket before that when the injured Tom Bailey top edged a short one from Rashid straight up in the air. So it’s now 172 for eight and it’s hard to see anything but a Yorkshire win being wrapped up soon. Standing between them is Karl Brown who has battled his way to a 50 as wickets have tumbled around him.
Big breakthrough for Yorkshire who now need just four wickets to go level on points with Lancashire at the top of the County Championship. Livingstone was the man to go and he’ll be kicking himself after slapping an awful ball from Rashid straight down the throat of Plunkett at deep square leg. That brought to an end a sixth wicket partnership of 63 runs which had begun to send nervous ripples through the home support as the target dropped below 200. Tom Bailey has joined Karl Brown at the crease now and he’s been suffering from a side injury for most of the game so it’ll be interesting to see how he fares.
A really good period after lunch this for Lancashire who are just abut hanging in there in what has been a fascinating game. Livingstone and Brown have now completed a fifty partnership for the sixth wicket and the target to win has dropped under 200. It is certainly a lot brighter above too. Plunkett has bowled too much down the leg side while the usually reliable Pattterson was a bit short. Rashid is coming on now for the beginning of what could be a long spell.
Lancashire 156 for five requiring 193 to win.
Not long to go at Merchant Taylors’... Dickie Bird has joined us in the press box this afternoon and has described Middlesex as “dark horses” this season

In a development that will of surely pleased the watching Nigel Farage of the Ukips the emphasis in that morning session was very much on ‘out’. Lancashire lost four top order wickets and with them has probably gone any chance of saving this game, let alone winning it. Under leaden skies it quickly became clear the game did not have much of a future unless Andrew Gale turned to spin but the enforced tactic worked brilliantly for Yorkshire as Rashid for Hameed and Lyth accounted for Procter. Bresnan picked up the wickets of Croft who played on and Petersen who was out lbw for the fifth time in his last ten innings.
At lunch, Yorkshire require five more wickets to win with Lancashire 121 for five and requiring 228 more runs to win.
All hopes of a Lancashire victory have surely gone now with Yorkshire all over their Roses rivals. Bresnan’s bowled very well this morning and Alviro Petersen has become his latest victim. It was another poor shot really as the South African batsman looked to work a straight one to the leg side and was trapped in front for 24. It’s 98-5 now and the light has improved somewhat allowing Yorkshire’s vaunted seam attack to click nicely. Liam Livingstone is the new man in.
The light has improved a bit here meaning Bresnan and Brooks have replaced the spinners and Bresnan has made an instant impact taking the wicket of Lancashire skipper Steven Croft for five. In all honesty it was a pretty dreadful shot from Croft who tried to remove his bat far too late and merely deflected the ball onto his stumps.
The light's improved so Bresnan is back and he bowls captain Steven Croft for 5 https://t.co/TDn7fIBUhR

Well what a first half hour for Yorkshire it has been. After the bad light prevented Andrew Gale from using his seamers, Adil Rashid and Adam Lyth were brought on and both of them have accounted for the overnight batsmen. Hameed was the first to go when he was caught behind attempting to cut Rashid before Procter edged an expansive drive to Bresnan at slip off Lyth. The score is now 55-3 with Lancashire still needing 294 to win and with the light showing no sign of improving we’re likely to have spin for a while.
Some more news on the pigeon now. My colleague Chris Waters of the Yorkshire Post reports on Twitter: “Dazed racing pigeon was found in North-East Stand. YCCC staff kindly gave it some water. Pigeon now flying home to Newcastle. Pigeon believed to have lost its bearings after flying up from Eastbourne, inadvertently finding itself at Roses match.”

Morning everyone. Apologies for the delay this morning - I’m lodging very close to the ground and my landlady was keen to discuss some of her previous tenants which resulted on a mildly diverting conversation about Gavin Hamilton’s brief England career.
Anyway it’s dull and overcast and very cold here in Leeds and the floodlights have just come on. Flaming June indeed. This game is set up beautifully on the final day with all results possible. Lancashire will need to make the biggest total of the match to win it and they must score 308 runs in a day. Yorkshire need to take nine wickets on a pitch where many a top order batsman have struggled and must be judged the huge favourites.
The elephant in the room (or the racing pigeon in the stands - see yesterday’s antics) is the weather. Although we might well miss the rain it’s very gloomy and light is sure to be an increasing issue.
Morning all,
Today we have Jamie Bowman at Headingley to cover Yorkshire v Lancashire.
Here is his report from yesterday:
Enjoy the cricket.
