Ah, it’s all over at the Ageas too. Hampshire battling, you’d think the rain, not their batting, would be favourite to save them, if they are to saved at all.
I think now seems a good time to sign off, with one game going, and my not being there. Keep commenting BTL, and thank you for sticking with it on a thoroughly frustrating day. Let’s hope that tomorrow is better - I will be at Lord’s or Edgbaston, depending on where the weather will be better, but I’m expecting it to be pants at both, to be honest.
Before I go, you should really watch this. Great young lad, is Gubbo.
Double 💯 for @ngubbins18 this afternoon. Superb batting by the @Middlesex_CCC man 👏https://t.co/I7io8E89W9

Have a fantastic evening all - the only way is up after last night, mind...
Updated
Just two games still going now as Hampshire claw their way towards Somerset’s total, while Kent are just about to start their second innings against Derbyshire, who declared nine down for a million. They’ve called it off at Leicester.
There it is. They are off for bad light now.
Pull to the short side and Nick Gubbins has a fine double hundred from 329 balls. #countycricketlive
— Vithushan (@Vitu_E) June 28, 2016
A knackered looking Gubbins moves to 150. He’s still going...
What a phenomenal innings here at @HomeOfCricket from @ngubbins18! Here he is bringing up his 150 earlier #KeepGoing pic.twitter.com/vCI8XjG8u3
— Middlesex Cricket (@Middlesex_CCC) June 28, 2016
Nice. Full batting points to Middlesex due to some decent acceleration before tea.
A well-deserved standing ovation for @ngubbins18 as he leaves the field on 189* at tea @HomeOfCricket #TeamMiddlesex pic.twitter.com/PB3r7BLcON

TEA - #TeamMiddlesex 407-5. Gubbins 189*, Stirling 2*. #batted

Very sensibly, with the rain as hard as it’s been all day, play has been called off for the day here. They’ve been off two hours and it’s properly minging.
Will keep the blog open and chuck a few bits and pieces about from the other games.
Still raining. Could have a call here before long I reckon.
Triple on?
DJ Gubbo has 31 from 19 balls since reaching 150. He ain't pissing about. #MidvLan
— Phil Makepeace (@AlteredCourse) June 28, 2016
Hampshire are back out too
FIFTY partnership. @carbs646 (37*) and @slug_7 (34*) put on 52 before the rain; a useful stand against testing @SomersetCCC bowling #HAMvSOM
— Hampshire Cricket (@hantscricket) June 28, 2016
Rather than follow me pretending to be a DJ, why not listen to a podcast?!
On my actual job, some news. Jake Ball is fine. Stand down, folks. He’s fine. He had a slightly sore elbow and didn’t take the field this morning. But that was just a precaution. He’s fine.
It’s properly raining again.
Happy birthday!!

The rain has reached Southampton. The dominoes are falling slowly but surely.
It's raining at the Ageas Bowl. Hampshire 173-4, trailing by 82 runs - Ervine (34*) Carberry (37*) #HAMvSOM
— Hampshire Cricket (@hantscricket) June 28, 2016
Obviously:
On the great man Nick Gubbins rolls.
Nick Gubbins to 150 off 291 balls. There's a double here if he wants it. Feel for Lancs though who are bowling well on a woeful track.
— Vithushan (@Vitu_E) June 28, 2016
Good shout from overrated BTL.
Leicester speaks, fyi:
Raining hard and heavily now, I'm afraid. @leicsccc @glosccc @BBCRLSport
— Richard Rae (@RichMRae) June 28, 2016
The rain has reached Leicester I see. Actually looks a bit brighter here.
As you can probably tell, I’m going slightly mad.
On that Travisy note? Anyone tell any lies when they were 17?
Cricket is a weird game. Bit confused by this tbh.
Love the chaotic nature of cricket scores. We have one score of 191 in 7 years of English county championship, then two on the same day.
— Ric Finlay (@RicFinlay) June 28, 2016
County cricketers, meet politics.
So they are now saying taxes will have to go up to! Is there anything positive about Brexit?? I haven't heard any yet!
— Luke Wright (@lukewright204) June 28, 2016
With this one, that has also popped up BTL, I feel it’s important to post the video.
Hampshire chipping away at Somerset’s big first innings lead.
Hampshire trail by less than 100 now. Ervine (25*) and Carberry (36*) have moved the home side to 163-4 - 92 runs the deficit #HAMvSOM
— Hampshire Cricket (@hantscricket) June 28, 2016
Blooming good to see this. Worth ten seconds away from songs about rain for. I think there was a Marroon 5 album called Songs About Jane. Bit embarrassed to admit I know that, tbh.
What better day for @dtcricket to be at Lord's with @KevinHandBBC - 4000 kids at the ground today. pic.twitter.com/GTkVzv8qYf

And, courtesy of overrated, here’s some proggy rain.
Singing in the rain was going to be the next banger I dropped, and thanks to Thamesider ATL, this is the version I’ll play:

Got a song about rain? Post in the comments or email me at the terribly cumbersome will.macpherson.freelance@guardian.co.uk.
Back to DJing.
By the way, I’ll take a brief moment from my DJing role to let you know that Keith Piper has left his coaching role at Leicestershire by mutual consent due to family reason.
Call the editor and tell him for god’s sake to hold the back page!!!
Ok right, as it’s raining and Edgbaston has all the atmosphere of a morgue today, I’m going to pretend to be a cricket ground DJ and post all the songs that those #banterous sorts play when it’s raining...
So, where else to start but here?
Good snaffle, that.

It’s hammering it down. Properly.
That rain has started here.
Hampshire, it’s fair to say, have a bit of work to do.
Hampshire have lost Smith (33) and Dawson (3) to Gregory since lunch. The @SomersetCCC bowler has taken 3-24. Hants 131-4, trailing by 124
— Hampshire Cricket (@hantscricket) June 28, 2016
....and, as promised, bad light has stopped play. Rain coming soon, too.
If the rain doesn’t get us here, the light will. Lights on, but it’s very dunkel now. Umpires having a chat, Boyd no longer allowed to bowl.
Clarke replaces him and bowls a bouncer first ball. Good form, that.

Oh bums, he’s out now. Sorry Stevie!
Think Gubbins enjoyed this as much as Eskinazi. They are great mates, so this is rather lovely.

Here we go. Jeetan, for the second time in the match, gets Lumb lbw with a quicker one. 70-2. And 89 behind.
Two hundreds for two fine young players at Lord’s.
Slog sweep for six and Eski boy gets his maiden first class hundred. Looked good for it, too. #CountyCricketLive #YourHostForThisEvening

Andy Bull, as ever, on excellent form. Here’s a fine primer for this week’s ICC meeting in Edinburgh.
Surrey’s latest overseas signing has landed on these shores.
Landed in London this morning, what a place!!
— Aaron Finch (@AaronFinch5) June 28, 2016
Don’t think it’s raining yet, but the covers are coming on for lunch....
That’s lunch here at Edgbaston, where Warwickshire have not bowled as well as they did on Sunday, and Ian Bell has set some slightly odd fields in search of more wickets. Lumb and Mullaney have batted very well in response.
From now, I’m afraid, we’re on rainwatch. It’s darkish and the forecast is bleak. It seems a matter of time before it comes tumbling down, perhaps for the rest of the match.
Nice.
Of all batsmen with more than 20 hundreds for @DerbyshireCCC only Peter Kirsten has scored them at a greater frequency than Wayne Madsen

Somerset are on the move after a frustrating morning.

Nick Gubbins getting close...
Gubbins dropped cutting on 96 by Croft - soft one too. Fifth time into 90s & one FC ton coming in his last innings at Lord's. #bbccricket

Neil Dexter is out.
Dexter's innings ends after 312 balls and 17 fours, superbly caught at second slip by Dent off Norwell. 329-8 Leics. #countycricketlive

Warwickshire are on the move, and Libby is gone! He’s prodded at one in the channel from Barker and Rikki Clarke does not drop those.
Allan Donald is in the press box here, talking about his time here, which is damn cool, if I’m honest.

Warwickshire are all out for 311. Christian gets Rankin - trying to hit him to Dudley - caught at short leg. Some pretty grim cricket towards the end there. The lead is 159. How many down will Notts be when the rain arrives?
We’ve had a wicket here, and it was quite a fun one. Brett Hutton dug one in at Mark Adair - the 20-year-old Irishman, who it seems can really bat - and he hooked him over Brendan Taylor at deep backward-square for six. Next ball, same drill, except he doesn’t quite catch it, and Taylor got him. Apparently the new ball has been taken.
Now, Steven Mullaney is bowling bouncers - with that new nut - to Boyd Rankin. What on earth is the world coming too?
Interestingly, it’s not just Luke Fletcher off the field, but Jake Ball too. As a result, it seems, they are forgoing the new ball for a while.
We’ve just had word from Notts that Ball has a sore elbow, but is set to bowl in the second innings, if we get that far...
Anyway, he bowled beautifully yesterday before having to bowl too much. Here’s yesterday’s report, anyway.
Updated
Morning all it's the morning call
Morning from Edgbaston! Forget yesterday, forget the last week, forget the world. It’s cricket time.
So, in this spirit, I wandered into the Edgbaston press box this morning - which is stratospherically high - with a spring in my step to see a couple of curious sights on the outfield.
Firstly, Allan Donald! Allan Donald is here. He was wearing a black Puma tracksuit, so at first we thought he might be committing the unthinkable (for Bears fans at least) and working with Nottinghamshire. But then it was a bit odd that he was talking shop with big Keith Barker, and apparently he’s just here on holiday. His teenage son was wandering around just behind him.
Next, Will Gidman! Remember him? Will Gidman is here, fulfilling his role as ghost cricketer in chief. He’s very well paid, is Will Gidman, and nearly left Notts for Hampshire in the winter. Must be 12th manning today, which is why he’s not with the seconds, where he’s spends most of his time.
Anyway, the players are out, and Brett Hutton is bowling to Jeetan Patel. No sign of Luke Fletcher sadly, who has a groin injury.
Elsewhere, Somerset are pushing for a win at Hampshire, Middlesex and Lancashire are just batting on another dire Lord’s pitch. In Div Two, Kent and Derbyshire are sparring, and Leicestershire are trying to bat themselves into a good spot against Gloucestershire.
Enjoy. The. Cricket. And comment please, comment lots.
Morning all,
Will is back at Edgbaston for Warwickshire v Nottinghamshire. Here is his report from yesterday...
Enjoy the cricket
