Sorry Folks, we’ve been abandoned here at Wantage Road. Thanks for your company. Let’s try again tomorrow.
Well this is has been one of the least eventful county blogs in history. I am afraid there’s nowt doing at Wantage Road. We briefly got excited as the covers came off for a 4.30pm inspection but as the umpires came out the rain came down. I think they’ll shepherd’s crook this one at about 6pm and we’ll try again tomorrow.
Scrap that. As you were – il pleut again. So it won’t be a 2.15 start. Michael Fish tells me that radar shows this will pass through but there’s some more behind it. It’s going to be one of those days. I’m glad I brought the choccy biscuits with me today although they won’t last all afternoon.

We’re about to have some cricket. This is not a drill. We really are. Northants have won the toss and will bowl first on a what looks like a particularly green wicket. There are a staggering 79 overs to be bowled once we start at 2.15pm BST so stumps will be at around midnight.
I’ve got some news. Albeit only of food. Lunch will be taken here at 1.20pm – and it’s roast chicken apparently – and then the umpires will inspect and we may start at 2.30pm. However, the radar says there might be another shower at 2pm.
Northants have named a 12-man squad and Adam Rossington is back from injury. Stephen Peters remains out with a broken thumb. Kent’s 13-man squad includes Tredwell back from a side strain.
Both sides comes into this match off the back of good T20 wins last night. Kent are riding high at the top of the south group and Northants have moved up to fifth in the north group but have a game in hand over Leicestershire and Durham.
In other news, there’s a lack of decent coffee around the county circuit. I might start a campaign.

Preamble
Good morning one and all. Welcome to the county blog. Yes yes it’s Saturday but I’m at Wantage Road where we are supposed to start play in 10 minutes. But it’s raining and the full covers are on so that’s not going to happen.
When we do get under way, Kent are looking for their second win of the season; their only win coming at Bristol a month ago. Northamptonshire have also only won once but are five places above Kent because they’ve drawn five of their seven matches. All the matches this season at Wantage Road have ended in a draw. Road being the pertinent word in the name of the ground.
So I’m afraid there’s not much else to report at the moment other than it’s likely Mitch Claydon will play instead of Calum Haggett who’s got a side strain.
