And that’s your lot folks...
Game off at Lord's
— mike selvey (@selvecricket) May 11, 2016
No joy at Lord’s. There was a pitch inspection due at 1.30 and indeed the anticipated start time was given on the scoreboard as 2.30. Simultaneously it started to hose down. Covers are coming off now, but only to irrigate the square.

After an hour of hard graft and mopping up by the groundstaff at Edgbaston, the match here has been abandoned by the umpires. A draw, and one which will leave Somerset most disappointed. 10 points and a sense of what could have been for the visitors, eight to Warwickshire and some relief, you would wager. Ho and indeed hum.
Tardy here so apologies. I got utterly drenched walking down the Wellington Road from St John’s Wood tube station. Did anyone see the torrential rain coming? The rain was sluicing down the media centre windows for most of the latter part of the morning and the outfield was puddled. This though is Lord’s with drainage of an efficiency that would have staggered the Dutch with their dykes and windmills. The upshot is that the mopping up is proceeding and there is to be an inspection at half past one. There will be play for certain if there is no more rain, but the game is about bonus points now.
Morning all. Afraid to report from Edgbaston that we continue to be frustrated by rain. Not heavy and we’ve had spells of brightness, but the mizzly kind that sees think remain at a standstill. Questionable whether we will see a result here now, which as I said yesterday would be a great shame for Somerset having got themselves into a dominant position. The pitch was do all sorts on the second day and wonder whether it will be marked as poor. Personally, I quite liked the challenges it threw up and the fact that were it not for rain, a win was on the cards in a season where they are hard to come by. But then I’m not the one facing Boyd Rankin from around the wicket. I see at Headingley they’ve declared but bad news for David Willey, off bowling for six weeks with abdominal issue.
Morning all,
Today we have Ali Martin at Edgbaston for Warwickshire v Somerset and Mike Selvey at Lord’s for Middlesex v Nottinghamshire. We don’t have any reports from yesterday to share, so here is something else to read: a lovely piece from the Nightwatchman about Yorkshire’s relationship with cricket:
