That’s the close at Old Trafford. Lancashire reach stumps on 194-6, requiring another 129 runs to win, while Yorkshire, quite obviously, need four wickets. A proper report from Graham Hardcastle will be landing shortly - until then - thanks for reading!
Oh boy! Have a look at this for a wicket: JC Buttler c Williamson b Root 59. England dressing room banter ahoy. Buttler tried a sweep but was caught at leg slip. Lancashire 190-6.
Buttler has dug in a little at Old Trafford while still scoring at a decent lick: a result tonight looked likely about half an hour ago, but the chances are diminishing now. Lancs are 153-5.
Steve Patterson gets two in an over, and Yorkshire are closing in - Hameed and Clark caught behind, one with extra bounce and the other low down to Bairstow’s right. Lancashire are 110-5.
Crikey! Glamorgan are 36-4 following on against Sussex at Hove, with Jofra Archer adding to his four first-innings wickets with a couple more. I shall say again: get that paperwork fast-tracked! Glammy may not even match their 85 all out in the first innings.
Yorkshire have kicked the door ajar here. Ben Coad had Keaton Jennings lbw for 30 before on-loan leggie Josh Poysden claimed his first wicket for the county when Dane Vilas was lbw pushing forwards. Lancashire are now 100-3 with Haseeb Hameed and Jos Buttler at the crease. Hameed has just pulled a Poysden full toss for six - the first of the match.
Some early evening reading from the great Gary Naylor...
Exciting times at Old Trafford, where Haseeb Hameed has reached 21 - his highest Championship score of the season so far. After four successive dismissals offering no shot, Hameed has played some handsome strokes, including a lovely cover drive for four to get off the mark against Tim Bresnan. Lancashire are 84-1 in the 23rd over. We have 25 more to bowl after this evening.
Yorkshire have the breakthrough, and it’s Alex Davies lbw to Tim Bresnan for 32. Davies and Keaton Jennings shared 54 for the first wicket, with Davies indicating inside edge was involved. Replays suggest that could very well be the case, but umpire Paul Pollard thought otherwise. Haseeb Hameed is in and off the mark having driven Bresnan for four. Lancashire 64-1 in the 17th chasing 323.
Rikki Clarke has followed Rory Burns to a hundred, off 131, as Surrey pile them on against Notts at Trent Bridge. The leaders are 541-7 replying to 210.
Here, at Old Trafford, Lancashire’s pursuit of 323 has started encouragingly. They are 38-0 after 12 overs with Keaton Jennings 14 and Alex Davies 24. Still a long way to go, however, and they were 46-0 in their first innings and bowled out for 109.
In Division Two, Glamorgan have been bowled out for 85 in reply to Sussex’s 327 at Hove against the pink ball. Jofra Archer finished with four and Chris Jordan three.
Right then. Lancashire need 323 to win, and we have 48 overs remaining tonight. And no doubt a few of you Lancashire fans will point out there are 56 remaining given the extra half hour to play with later if needed.
Yorkshire advanced from 154-4 at lunch to 239 all out, with Jonny Bairstow’s 82 off 67 balls standing out. Harry Brook’s 55 was the next best, while captain Steve Patterson added an unbeaten 45.
Dane Vilas claimed six wickets in the innings; five catches and a stumping.
You really do have to fancy Yorkshire in conditions which have aided the seamers all the way through. There is a realistic chance here that Josh Poysden could come in on a one-match loan and not bowl a ball.
Elsewhere, Worcestershire have recovered impressively from 120-7 against Somerset at New Road as they reply to 337. They are currently 200-8, with Luke Wood unbeaten on 41.
Surrey are 472-7 against Notts (210) at Trent Bridge, with the lead on the way to 300.
In Division Two, Middlesex and Warwickshire are locked in a tight battle at Lord’s, with the hosts 72-1 in their second innings leading by 32. Earlier, former Yorkshire all-rounder Will Rhodes scored a century. Glamorgan are 61-7 against Sussex at Hove.
Looks like a fair old opening 45 minutes of day two at Hove with the pink ball, where Glamorgan are 27-5 against Sussex, who were bowled out for 327 late last night. Jofra Archer has four of them, including Nick Selman and Usman Khawaja in the same over. Get that paperwork fast tracked!
Yorkshire have advanced to 210-6, a lead of 293, with Tim Bresnan and Steve Patterson at the crease, the latter on 24 having frustrated Matthew Parkinson with a couple of late dabbed sweeps. Hang on, it’s 211-7 now as Jordan Clark bowls Bresnan for 18. 294 lead.

Rory Burns is out for 153 to Samit Patel as Surrey advance to 384-6 against Notts, a lead of 174. Here, Gary Ballance has been caught behind down leg off Tom Bailey, with Dane Vilas taking his fifth catch behind of the innings. The search for records in the press box is on given there are still four wickets to fall. Yorkshire are 175-6, leading by 258 with Tim Bresnan and Steve Patterson in. We still have 67 overs remaining in the day with the possibility of another eight later. I may need a sleeping bag.
Lancashire have their man, but it may just be too late. Jonny Bairstow has slapped Graham Onions to point, where Jos Buttler takes the catch chest high to get rid of his England team-mate for a swashbuckling 82 off 67 balls. Yorkshire are 162-5, leading with 245 with Gary Ballance and Tim Bresnan in.
Yorkshire have strengthened their grip on this fast moving match against Lancashire, with Jonny Bairstow and Harry Brook both racing to morning fifties as a 25.1-over second morning session brought a score of 154-4.
The White Rose started their second innings at the start of day two with a lead of 83 and lost three wickets inside six overs to slip to 21-3, but they now lead by 237 with Bairstow looking ominous on 77 not out.
He shared 133 for the fourth wicket with opener Brook, the ex-England under 19s captain, who fell at the start of the final over of the morning - strangled off Tom Bailey’s bowling.
Adam Lyth, Joe Root and Kane Williamson were all caught behind for four, three and one to Graham Onions and Jimmy Anderson.
Bairstow and Brook brought up their 50 partnership - the first of the match - in just six overs and the 100 stand came inside 14. Bairstow reached a 38-ball fifty with seven fours first and Brook followed him to the milestone off 60 balls with eight.
There are some in the press box who believe Yorkshire already have enough, and I can see why. Lancashire, with only nine wickets to play with, have hardly shown anything with the bat this season against the red ball. You feel their hopes lie on Jennings, Davies, Buttler and Vilas.
One thing that does seem very strange is that Matthew Parkinson hasn’t bowled yet.
Elsewhere, Surrey are 325-5 against Notts at Trent Bridge, leading by 115 with Rory Burns unbeaten on 139. Morning encouragement there for Stuart Broad it seems with a couple of wickets, including Aaron Finch.
Bottom side Worcestershire are struggling against Somerset (337) at New Road. They have slipped to 82-5 this morning, with two wickets apiece for Jamie Overton and Josh Davey.
In Division Two, Warwickshire have edged ahead of Middlesex at Lord’s and are 248-8 in reply to 236, while Durham are 40-0 against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham in reply to 362. A good morning for Ben Stokes with two wickets to complete his five-for.
Jonny Bairstow and Harry Brook have shared the first fifty stand of this match in just six overs, advancing the score from 21-3, and they have now moved the score to 104-3 as Yorkshire reassert their authority on the Red Rose. Bairstow was dropped on 22 at mid-on by Matthew Parkinson off Graham Onions. No getting around it, he should have held on following a miscued punch. Brook has 48 and Bairstow 42. The lead is 187 as we approach the final half hour of the morning. Lancashire desperately need a wicket.
Some lunchtime reading from Gary Naylor...

Ben Stokes has claimed a five-wicket haul for Durham against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham, his first for the county in just over four years. Having claimed three yesterday, he has added the wickets of Chris Miles and Matt Taylor as the hosts moved to 362 all out.
Jonny Bairstow and Harry Brook have just posted the first fifty stand of the match here at Old Trafford, in six overs, following the departure of Kane Williamson for one - caught behind off Graham Onions. Incidentally, Williamson’s return of one run in the match was a career low in matches which have seen him bat twice. Yorkshire back on track at 73-3, leading by 156.

Rory Burns has reached his fourth hundred of the summer for Surrey as they plough on against Notts at Trent Bridge. He has lost partners Scott Borthwick and Aaron Finch to Luke Fletcher and Stuart Broad in the last couple of overs, but the Division One leaders are 246-3 after just 50 overs, leading by 36. Burns is unbeaten on 102 with Ben Foakes for company.
Here, Jonny Bairstow and Harry Brook are counter-attacking with some effect. They have taken the score to 52-3, a lead of 135. Bairstow has 22 off nine balls and Brook is unbeaten on 20.
Joe Root’s gone for three, caught behind off a beauty from Jimmy Anderson. Short of a length and Root was unsure whether to play forwards or back. Either way, he had to play at it and feathers behind to Dane Vilas. Yorkshire are 18-2 with a lead of 101.
Elsewhere, Somerset have lost their last wicket against Worcestershire and are 337 all out at New Road.
Here we go again....Lancashire have the breakthrough after 12 balls of day two. Graham Onions forces Adam Lyth to feather behind to Dane Vilas, with a touch of swing doing the trick. Yorkshire slip to 5-1, a lead of 88.
Good morning from Old Trafford, where the sun is shining and we’re all set for day two of the Roses clash.
I’ll be honest with you, I still haven’t 100% caught my breath back following yesterday’s craziness. I thought I’d seen it all when covering Yorkshire’s 50 all out and win fixture against Essex down at Chelmsford in early May. Then throw in Friday’s night’s T20 clash here too. But no.
Even White Rose captain Steve Patterson floated Jordan Clark’s hat-trick as a genuine contender for the best of all time given the calibre of batsmen he dismissed in Root, Williamson and Bairstow.
Then, Lancashire just imploded with the bat after to be bowled out for 109, conceding an 83-run lead.
I genuinely don’t know how they solve the Haseeb Hameed problem. Four times in a row now he’s been out offering no shot and can’t seem to buy a score.
It’s been an incredible fall from grace since twin centuries in this fixture - a draw - towards the back end of the 2016 season, effectively earning him a Test call-up for the late winter series in India. He was supposed to be England’s opener for years to come, wasn’t he?
Although there is a way this match could finish today, I fully expect Yorkshire to bat far better than they did yesterday and pile the pressure on Lancashire, who are set to be without Liam Livingstone (fractured left thumb) for the rest of the game. Livingstone suffered the blow to his left hand whilst fielding at second slip yesterday. He is out there on the field as I type, but with his lower arm in a cast. It is also a serious blow to the Red Rose’s T20 Blast hopes.
The rest of Division One are going to have a job on to catch Surrey, that is for sure.
They dominated the opening day against Notts at Trent Bridge, bowling their hosts out for 210 and replying with 223-1. Rory Burns is three away from a century. Stuart Broad has some bowling to do (0-38 from nine).
Somerset are in reasonable health at 324-9 against Worcestershire at New Road thanks to half-centuries for James Hildreth, Tim Abell and Steven Davies against his former county.
There’s the full complement of fixtures in Division Two, with leaders Warwickshire ahead against Middlesex (152-4 in reply to 236 and Will Rhodes unbeaten on 53) at Lord’s.
Leicestershire have the upper hand at Kent, with their lead 45 with four wickets left having bowled the hosts out for 104 thanks to three apiece for Zak Chappell and Ben Raine.
Gloucestershire’s Ryan Higgins, who has impressed with the ball this summer, performed with the bat as his 105 underpinned 315-7 against Durham at Cheltenham, while Northants are 74-3 replying to Derbyshire’s 260 all out at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield.
Sussex are keeping the pressure on Warwickshire and Kent at the top and were bowled out for 327 by Glamorgan at Hove yesterday - Jason Gillespie’s current and former employers.
