Country pub of the week: The Nag's Head, Abercych

A charm: the Nag’s Head - (Courtesy of the Nag's Head)

Wales is well known for its myths and legends, and a few surround the Nag’s Head.

The beloved local pub once doubled as a blacksmith’s and later a court of law, but today matters are mostly kept to food and drink. Situated in Pembrokeshire’s magical Cych Valley, the Nag’s Head is as charming as you’d expect. Eclectic, colourful glass bottles fill big wooden dressers, oak beams line low ceilings and the singsong tune of someone shouting “Hello, Bach” across the bar makes for ambient background noise. Bach being a Welsh term of endearment; late baroque composers are in short supply here.

Keeping things close to home, produce comes from as many local suppliers as possible: perfectly poured pints of Welsh Ale, tender cuts of meat and Caws Cenarth cheese are always guaranteed. It is, in that way, legendary. Maggie John
