Country pub of the week: The Flowing Well, Sunningwell

Well I never: the pub once hosted famous musicians - (The Flowing Well)

The Flowing Well in Oxfordshire has a fun recent history. From the early 2000s until about five years ago, it was owned by a chef-musician couple.

The chef, Jo, would cook excellent pub classics alongside a teenager who now writes about food and drink for this paper.

The musician, LeBurn, used to play guitar for Alice Cooper. He would occasionally beguile locals with his mesmeric voice.

Today, it’s an imposing country pub in Sunningwell, itself a minuscule village with a duck pond, a cricket pitch, and little else. It feels the sort of place a horror movie might occur.

The decor might not be what it was and the menu is a little basic these days. That said, the burgers are juicy and there’s still a beef featherblade on the menu, a tremendous cut of meat too rarely seen in British pubs.
