Country pub of the week: The Chainbridge Inn, Usk

The Chainbridge is the kind of place you go to for your tea, and perched atop the banks of the River Usk with a spectacular view of the strikingly green bridge that gives the pub its name, why wouldn’t you?

The understated menu is made up of hearty dishes which people actually want to eat. The ingredients are sourced locally where possible and the lamb and beef come from up the road. It’s a proper, all-seasons family-run pub with everyone mucking in when they need to.

During the winter months, cosy up in the dining room, relishing the warmth of the roaring log burners. Come summer, grab a table outside if you’re early enough or budge up on the end of someone else’s. The bar is well-stocked and the wine list does the job but the reliable gathering of regulars and visitors alike is what really makes The Chainbridge shine.
