Country pub near Bristol to become 'foodie destination' under new ownership

A country pub near Bristol will become a foodie destination that people from all over the region will want to travel to, its new owner hopes.

The Wheatsheaf Inn in Corston, a 30-minute drive from Bristol, reopened last weekend under the ownership of Steffan Block.

The 53-year-old grew up in Kingswood but moved to America at the age of 21, where he has spent the past 30 years running bars and restaurants - including most recently a double decker bus serving street food in Nashville, Tennessee.

Despite enjoying his stint in the States, Steffan missed his hometown and longed for a classic British pub, so when the opportunity arose to take on The Wheatsheaf he simply couldn't resist.

"I loved living and running restaurants in America but it's great to be back in Bristol," said the Bristol City fan.

"Nothing beats a classic British pub and that is exactly what The Wheatsheaf is. It's a diamond in the rough set in stunning countryside with bags of potential. It feels great to be up and running."

Steffan has invested a large sum of money in renovating the pub and giving it a fresh look, but the main changes are found in the kitchen.

The menu now features a wide range of American classics including ribs, steaks and burgers, all made with top quality meat sourced from Tunley Farm Butchers in Bath.

Locally sourced produce is also used in the rest of the dishes, including the mouthwatering Cuban sandwich which includes pork that's been slow roasted for 12 hours.

Steffan also hopes to host regular American-themed brunch mornings with waffles, pancakes and cocktails on offer for guests, as well as a monthly hog roast event in the spacious pub garden.

"The staff are all trained up, the food is looking great and we've got safety measures in place to make sure the pub is COVID-secure," added Steffan.

"We really want to make the pub a foodie destination with global flavours cooked to perfection.

"These are exciting times ahead for The Wheatsheaf and we can't wait to welcome more people through the doors."

The Wheatsheaf is located at Wells Road, BA2 9HB, Corston. For more information, call the pub on 01225 874518.
