The ruling BJP on Sunday swept the municipal elections in Tripura, winning 217 of the 222 seats for which elections were held on November 25.

The Left front, led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), won three seats, the Trinamool Congress one and the Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance got one while the Congress failed to mark its presence in the civic polls.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb led the BJP celebrations and congratulated people for rallying behind his party.
Mr. Deb tweeted, “I consider your votes to the BJP as blessings and these blessings motivate us to work harder for the development of all 37 lakh people of the State.”
The results were linked to the welfare and development initiatives of his government, he told reporters.
Opposition parties however rejected the results and alleged that they had predicted such an outcome after the BJP reduced the elections held on November 25 to a “farce”.

The BJP captured with ease the Agartala Municipal Corporation and 13 other civic bodies where it now has 329 of the 334 seats. The party had earlier won 112 seats uncontested.
The party bagged all 51 seats in the Agartala Municipal Corporation. In the Ambassa Municipal Council in Dhalai district, the BJP bagged 12 seats, while the Trinamool, the CPI(M) and TIPRA got one seat each.
The Trinamool Congress and the CPI(M) have moved the Supreme Court, complaining of violence and rigging.
The BJP took all 51 seats in the Agartala Municipal Corporation. In the Ambassa Municipal Council in Dhalai district, the BJP bagged the majority of the seats, but the Trinamool, CPI(M) and TIPRA got one each.
Elections to the Agartala Municipal Corporation and other municipal councils and nagar panchayats were held amid allegations of widespread rigging, and attacks on Opposition candidates.
