Countdown's Rachel Riley breaks silence as Anne Robinson's replacement confirmed

Countdown's Rachel Riley has broken her silence on Anne Robinson's exit.

The Crosby-born TV presenter has left the show after just one year. Anne, 77, joined the Channel 4 programme last year, becoming its sixth presenter and the first woman to front the show.

Ms Robinson, who recorded 265 episodes of the much-loved game show, said: "I've had a blast hosting this wonderful show. And I stayed longer than I signed up for. Now it is time for an older woman to take the reins."

Anne's replacement has been announced as Colin Murray as the presenter confirmed he will front the show from July 14 to November. He tweeted: "I’m like the assistant manager, given the job until end of season. Earn respect of dressing room ( @susie_dent @RachelRileyRR ), get some points on the board, try to win a trophy! 75 games to get it right."

His new co-host was in jubilant spirits as she responded to the new addition to the show. Rachel joked: "Colin’s at the wheel"

She also praised fans for their response after Colin joined the show. Rachel added: "Such a lovely reaction to Colin being back, a pretty universal sentiment!"

Thrilled fans rushed to comment on the new update.

John said: "Hear hear! I thought he created such a cheerful and fun atmosphere last time he was there, and he did a great job as host. I can’t speak highly enough of him."

TP added: "Brilliant I can’t wait a breath of fresh air and great rapport with Rachel and Susie !"

@KernockCottages posted: "He’s the right man for the job. Passionate, empathetic, considerate, insightful"
