Countdown's Rachel Riley blushes as letters spell out rude word in awkward blunder

Countdown is usually a civilised affair, with contestants spelling out words from an anagram and working out sums.

But sometimes it will throw up hilariously awkward moments that leave everyone embarrassed.

The Channel 4 show's presenter Rachel Riley didn't know where to look during an awkward gaffe on the most recent episode.

The 35-year-old blushed as the contestant picked out letters - and it spelled out a very rude word.

She let out an awkward laugh as she selected the final consonant spelling the word 'SL*T'.

After picking out 'S' and 'L', then opting for a vowel so a 'U' appeared on the board, the Countdown hopeful then asked the star to add another contestant to his selection.

As Rachel revealed the fourth letter to be a 'T', the presenter smirked at the awkward outcome.

Off camera, contestant Mike could be heard giggling as he apologised for his accidental gaffe.

Not content with one cheeky word, the contestants jumble of letters also produced the word 'smut', as spitted by Dictionary Corner guest Pam Ayres.

It's not the first time a rude word has been spelled out on Countdown - and it certainly won't be the last.

Back in 2017, Scottish fans were in stitches after the letters managed to spell out "Gobsh**e".
