Countdown hosts Rachel Riley and Susie Dent welcome Anne Robinson to all-female team

Rachel Riley and Susie Dent welcomed new Countdown host Anne Robinson, but warned quizzers she’s still formidable.

Maths whiz Rachel hinted she had brought some of her renowned acid tongue from The Weakest Link to the all-female line-up.

She said: “It’s been really fun watching Anne very quickly find her feet and seeing the contestants in the new groove with her.

“She’s not shy of asking funny questions and responses ranged from comedy to not looking at her and hoping she doesn’t see them.”

Rachel, 35, who is expecting her second baby with hubby ex-Strictly Come Dancing professional Pasha Kovalev, added: “It’s been very lively.”

Susie, 56, who runs Dictionary Corner, said she had admired Anne since she helped her out on BBC IQ series Test The Nation in 2005.

She said: “I’m so pleased to be able to work with Anne again. She’s going to be a wonderful addition to the Countdown team.”

Anne, 76, will make her first appearance as Nick Hewer’s replacement on the daily Channel 4 game show from Monday, June 28.

She said she is loving the all-female vibe, adding: “Three girls do Countdown – who wouldn’t want to watch?”

Anne becomes the sixth host of the series that started in 1982 and follows in the footsteps of Richard Whiteley, Des Lynam, Des O’Connor, Jeff Stelling and Hewer.
