Countdown fans gutted as Susie Dent missing from Channel 4 show due to Covid test

Countdown viewers were not happy on Monday when they realised both Rachel Riley and Susie Dent were missing from the show.

As fans of the Channel 4 series tuned into the latest instalment, they were quick to notice 57-year-old Susie's absence.

Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: “#countdown I knew Rachel was soon to be off the screen due to maternity but where has Susie gone?"

Another tweeted: "#Countdown without Rachel AND Susie seems almost unthinkable. It’s like a whole new programme… @Channel4 @RachelRileyRR @susie_dent."

Rachel, 35, is currently on maternity leave after welcoming her second child with husband Pasha Kovalev in November.

Countdown host Anne Robinson was quick to address Susie's absence on Monday afternoon so that viewers were well aware of what was going on.

She explained: "As you can see, Susie’s not here. She’s away having a Covid test.”

Anne then introduced Adrian Chiles, confirming that he was taking on Susie’s role for the day.

Upon hearing the news, one fan tweeted: "Anne said at the beginning that Susie is having a covid test. I guess we may know whether it's positive if she's not there tomorrow. #countdown."

Anne also told viewers: "In case you didn’t notice, Christmas is coming very fast now and we also have a new arrival, Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon.

“Have I done that surname okay?” Anne then asked, to which Anne-Marie replied: "You have, Anne."

Anne continued: "Now, she is an amazing whizz-kid at maths and she is keeping the seat warm for Rachel.

"Anne-Marie, I know you do amazing social enterprise for young women and non-binary people and it’s encouraging them into the sciences?” she added.

Explaining more about the work she does, Anne-Marie replied: “Yes, you could say that. Into sciences, technical fields, STEM specifically. So, science, technology, engineering, and maths."
