Councillors set to decide on new Wishaw nursery plans

Councillors will decide whether to proceed with plans for a nursery in Wishaw.

The council’s planning committee will confirm if proposals to build the education facility at a location east of Heathery Road will go ahead.

The new centre would occupy the site of a former sports pavilion.

The plans have been drawn up by council officers as part of North Lanarkshire’s efforts to meet the Holyrood’s target of eligible two year olds and all three and four year olds having access to 1140 hours of funded, high quality early learning via childminders and authority-run or private nurseries.

A council spokesman said: “Families with young children in North Lanarkshire will soon benefit from increased nursery provision thanks to our ambitious development programme to expand childcare and early learning across the area.

“To support the plans, we are building nine new nurseries and adapting seven existing facilities.”
