Councillors agree on proposed expansion of Perth Food and Drink Park

Councilllors have unanimously approved plans to extend Perth’s Food and Drink Park.

Sweco UK submitted plans on behalf of Perth and Kinross Council to extend the North Muirton Industrial Estate site by up to four hectares.

PKC’s planning and development management committee met to scrutinise the plans on Wednesday, October 20.

The land 200 metres north of Thomson Landscapes, Inchcape Place is currently undeveloped greenspace. Plans were submitted for a change of use for the site to be developed for business, industrial and storage/distribution use.

As part of the plans, an access road would be created from Bute Drive/Arran Road via Dunkeld Road with access beyond to the A9.

A scoping exercise showed up to five individual development plots with a maximum developable site area of between 3.5 and four hectares.

At Wednesday’s virtual meeting Conservative Strathtay councillor Ian James moved to approve the plans.

He said: “This park is already a success anyway. I have no hesitation in proposing we go forward with this.”

Conservative Almond and Earn councillor David Illingworth seconded approval and said: “Quite often we get the comment about building houses and the question of: ‘Where are all these people going to work?’

“Well, here’s the answer. I’m happy to promote business within the Perth and Kinross area.”

The application was unanimously approved.
