The new Mayor of the St Helens borough for 2021-2022 has been officially sworn in.
Billinge and Seneley Green ward councillor Sue Murphy was born in Aigburth, Liverpool, and moved to Garswood in 1984 where she brought up her family.
After leaving St Margaret Clitherow Girls Schools, where she served as head girl, Cllr Murphy went onto work as a receptionist, working her way up to office administrator, before meeting her husband of the past 40 years, Mike, who she has three sons with.

Mike will also join Sue during her year as mayor by carrying out the role as consort.
Cllr Murphy has been involved in local politics for the past 27 years after first being elected onto Seneley Green Parish Council, before being elected to represent the people of Billinge and Seneley Green on St Helens council 17 years ago.
During her time on the council, Councillor Murphy has held a number of high-profile roles including deputy leader of the council and a number of cabinet positions – also serving as Deputy Crime Commissioner for Merseyside Police as well as Chair of Governor’s at Garswood Primary School.
Cllr Murphy said: "Being mayor is a wonderful honour for me and my family.
"When we emigrated all the way from Liverpool we never imagined for one minute that the people of St Helens would open their arms embrace us in the way they have, they are proud strong hardworking people who I will represent with great pride."
During her mayoral year, Councillor Murphy will look to raise money for two causes very close to her heart – Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, where her granddaughter Antonia, aged ten, recently underwent successful brain surgery, and the Helen Marie Friends charity which supports sick and disabled children.
This year’s Mayor Making ceremony also saw Councillor Linda Maloney MBE, ward councillor for Blackbrook, named deputy mayor for 2021-22.
