Perthshire councillor says action may be needed to move messy pigeons away from residential area

A councillor has suggested the local authority could be forced to take action to clear pigeons from a property in Scone that are said to be troubling residents.

Strathmore councillor Lewis Simpson said he had received a number of complaints about pigeons roosting on the roof of a local authority-owned property in the village during the latest meeting of Scone and District Community Council.

He told members he believes the pigeons have been drawn to the property in Park Terrace by an elderly lady who keeps feeding them and that efforts to persuade the woman to stop doing this had failed so far.

Councillor Simpson went on to suggest the local authority could end up having to take tougher action to get rid of the birds if they continue to cause problems for residents.

“There are hundreds of pigeons perching on the roof and making a mess of people’s gardens,” he said. “Being nice to the bird lover doesn’t seem to be working so I think something else is going to have to happen.”
