Councillor delighted as double yellow lines painted in series of streets near schools

A Motherwell councillor has spoken of her relief after double yellow lines were painted in a series of streets near a primary school.

The SNP’s Agnes Magowan had been campaigning for cars not to be parked in streets around Knowetop Primary School for a number of years.

And the Motherwell South East and Ravenscraig councillor is pleased the work has been carried out ahead of the new school term.

She said: “I am delighted to have campaigned for safety traffic measures which meet the needs of my constituents.

“I have been really concerned about the young people from Knowetop PS crossing Manse Road, Edward Street, Gavin Street and Adele Street as the crossing patrol had to bring the children through between parked cars which was extremely dangerous.

“Also driver’s views were blocked by parked cars when coming out of Gavin Street onto Manse Road and Adele Street. It was an accident waiting to happen. Now all people including children and the elderly will have a clearer view of the road.

“I would like to thank North Lanarkshire Council for carrying out all the consultation needed and laying down double yellow lines at these very dangerous corners.

“I hope people will obey the law and keep these corners free which will make the crossing patroller’s job a lot easier.

“Traffic wardens will be directed to this area on occasion but she hopes they will find no-one to fine.

“I would ask people to think and keep these corners clear and safe.”
