Councillor calls for Beat the Street to return to East Kilbride

An Independent councillor has called for Beat the Street to return to East Kilbride.

The fun initiative turns towns into giant games.

Participants earn points, win prizes and discover more about the area by walking, running and cycling.

They pick up a Beat the Street card and swipe Beat Boxes across their community.

The last time it was held in the town, East Kilbride walked, cycled and ran an incredible 124,665 miles as part of Beat the Street.

Councillor David Watson told Lanarkshire Live : "The Beat the Street game is taking place in Cambuslang and Rutherglen at the moment.

"There was also a game held in Hamilton and Blantyre earlier this year.

"Funding to allow the games to take place comes from Paths for All and the Scottish Government’s Air Quality Action Plan 2022 via South Lanarkshire Council.

"I have requested that any funding made available for 2022 should allow the game to return to East Kilbride.

"The game was well received the last time it was held in East Kilbride, allowing schools and families to get out and about getting fresh air, exercise whilst having fun."
